Weddings in Funeral Parlors?

Today my eyes popped  opened even further as I sipped my daily cup of java and read the January 19 edition of USA Today.

A new trend is on the horizon that is diversifying the use of funeral parlors – weddings!  In a growing trend across the nation, funeral homes are opening their facilities to the community in an effort to diversify and grow their base.

Why funeral homes, you ask?

Funeral homes are more affordable than most catering halls and the ambiance is usually soft and prone to a photographer’s perfect setting, while some traditional catering facilities are shutting down due to the struggling economy. A 2010 funeral home poll showed that 10%  of 627 funeral home owners are offering their facility for community functions.   Does this give you the creeps?

Before you respond, consider the fact that our churches do both services… funerals and weddings. It’s all just a matter of timing , no?
