Lisa Diemer: Cupcake Chemistry!

I decided to interview Lisa Diemer of Kitchen Chemistry as she is a model for other women who have dreamed of having their own “little shop” one day….

PW:How long have you been in the baking business?

LISA: I’ve been baking since I was a child.  My dad was a baker and would bring home these wonderful creations.  I would daydream about being able to do that too.

.   After a few years of searching for the perfect location, Main Street just fit like a glove.  I love being a part of the Main Street experience.   I see the area growing and changing for the better.  I feel blessed to be a positive part of this growth.

PW: What hurdles should a woman be aware of before she makes the move from her home to a storefront location?

LISA: The biggest hurdle I had to overcome was myself.  I was afraid of the changes that might take place with the commitment of an actual shop.    I also was afraid of how my family life would be affected.  It turns out that they love being a part of this adventure just as much as I do.    Of course,   I can’t attend every family event anymore, but I really appreciate the ones I can get to.

I think the most important thing a woman should know before moving from home to a shop is that it’s important to ask questions and really hear the answers.      Things don’t always make sense before you actually take the step – but there is a lot of support in the community.  I found that everyone wants you to succeed and is willing to guide you.

PW: Who are your customers? Who attends your classes and buys your cupcake creations?

LISA: I’m in a happy business.   Everyone is smiling when they walk out our door.   Our classes are geared to anyone young at heart!  Ages range from 8 to 80!   We make sure every student has fun and is proud of their creations.    We have in depth knowledge of all the supplies we sell and we’re eager to help.

Our cupcakes are little packages of joy!  Our hope is that when someone opens a box of our cupcakes, they feel like they’re opening a present.

PW: Has being a member of PoconoWomen helped you in any way, and if so, how?

LISA: Pocono Women is such a positive force in my success.  The support these ladies offered me when I was getting my business off the ground was priceless.  With Pocono Women, we’re all in the same boat, trying to blend our family and business lives together and sharing what we’ve learned with each other.
